Double Spinwheels (Block #27)

It's been a few weeks since I last updated Quilters' Block. I  Can't believe I am up to 445 views! But anyhow I was on vacation in Myrtle Beach with my family and what a wonderful time it was. I'm growing more fond of the beach each time I go to one. I love oceans and being around water but just never liked the sand that gets every where and is hard to clean. It seems you never can get quite all of it, always a little sand left behind.   The weather was perfect, and only one day was really hot.  So now I am back (though a few shades darker from being in the sun) in the swing of things at home. I am ready to gear up and get sewing. I have so many quilting projects going on right now.  The Arkansas crossroad quilt is yet to  be completed. That project is on hold while I get tackle several baby gifts and graduation gifts as well as some custom orders.  I'm going to be very busy over the next few weeks.

So today's block is called Double Spinwheels Now this is a original pattern by Marcia Hohn who is so kind to writes out all the pattern directions that I link each block I made too.  Please abide by the terms and conditions of use she has listed on the pattern page. The only change I made to this block is using a 3.5x6.5 rectangle for the light brown pieces and attaching a 3.5 inch block sewing directly on the diagonal. Then  I assembled the block  according to the picture. I think it comes out looking a little  better and it has a little less seams to match up which is great for us not so fussy people. I am all about trying to find new and quicker ways to do things.  But either way it come out looking almost the same.  This I've done in all purple for a quilt for a graduation gift.  So the next 12, 12 inch blocks will be done in all purple and white. I like the purple/green /yellow reproduction floral print in this block. I've used it in a  great many quilts. I think it's finally all gone now.

Here's a quilt example of  what might a quilt done in all Double Spinning wheels might look like.  I especially like the edge treatment of the quilt. Click the picture to go to the link.
